Or more specifically, I hate the image female J-Pop artists are forced to portray. Who honestly believes the whole bubbly 25-year old act, anyway?

It's a huge peeve of mine when girls in Japan pull a Leah Dizon, and go from having an ultra sexed-up image in the AV industry, then suddenly become perfectly innocent and "clean" once they try their hand at singing. What a load of bullshit. None of the blame falls on Ms. Dizon herself or others like her, but it's still sickeningly fake, hypocritical even.

No wonder there's such a huge problem with child/lolita pornography in that country, what with their obsession with female purity. And the worst part is, the country as a whole doesn't even seem realize it. How are they supposed to confront the problem if they won't even acknowledge that it's reflected in other aspects of their pop culture?

I'm honestly glad that Koda Kumi is so popular in J-Pop at the moment. Yes, her videos can be very racy or, dare I say it, slutty, but at least she freaking owns up to it. God forbid there be more sexually confident women in the Japanese media.

I. AGREE. WITH THIS. 100 PERCENT. I fucking hate all that cutesy crap by girls who are really huge sluts or were in the past. Koda Kumi is awesome because she is a slut and she knows it (and plus she is actually kind of hot. like ew if I were a guy I would like my women looking like women and not like kindergarteners). I think it's really sketchy that everyone's in love with these 24 year olds who act like they're 13; that's why we get pedophiles, people. ):

What really bothers me is how some fanboys don't get that the whole overly-cutesy thing is a big act. And they wank over the girls' smallest deviation from anything cute. It's like these female idols aren't allowed to have an actual personality outside of whatever image they've built up for themselves.

Fucking agreed. I hear that Koda Kumi gets a lot of stick, but I prefer her to Leah Dizon, who is so false it makes her unwatchable. It's probably why I can't find a female J-pop band to get excited about, because all the girls in them seem to act like they're thirteen rather than 25. All the giggling behind their hands and dressing like children and, just, no.

I've noticed most of the female J-Pop singers who are exempt from doing the cute act tend to be more "serious" artists who sing ballads and/or r&b. But with out-and-out J-pop, you're pretty much stuck with these "moe" girl idols.

Leah's cool sometimes, but I really hate how the whole transformation took place. She could've stayed sexy or something. Won't hurt. It's kinda stupid actually. Very, VERY hypocritical.

I'm not a Leah hater, even though it might seem that way from my post. But yeah, I think she wouldn't get nearly as much backlash as she does if she had just retained her sexy image. Everyone knows that she's a famous AV star, so what is the point of trying to completely cover it up? Honestly. :/
